Solutions from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. How is everybody doing today? My yesterday amounted to one frustrating day of sewing. Fortunately, I believe I have things sorted out now, and today should go better...right after I mop the floor. I'm not including floor-mopping in the "better day" category, but it must be done.

Things started out okay. I spent a little extra time on the morning's slow-stitching so that I could finish off this third of seven pieces for the Girls' Getaway quilt. I think, of the seven, this one has the most stitching

After that, I took a ...

Fun Project from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Here we are again at Friday. The weeks are seeming to fly by right at the moment. Is it just me or does time move faster as we approach the end of the year? And let me just say I've been ready for the presidential campaign to end for at least the past six months. (Probably I was ready before it even started.) Just a few more weeks, and then we'll get a reprieve.

After finishing yesterday's post, I went to work finishing up September's "Joy in the Ordinary" block. It still ...

Resuming a Normal Routine from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, although there isn't much morning left in the day. It was a busy and productive morning for me. I showered and left the house early for a fasting blood draw. It's a miserable morning when I can't have my coffee. It took three sticks for one vial of blood, which was mildly annoying.

The phlebotomist read off the tests they would run on my blood, looking at me for affirmation. "If that's what the doctor ordered," I said. "I was hoping you would know what we're doing." Sheesh. It didn't ...

Hot Dam from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was hot yesterday. We were glad we were out early to see the Glen Canyon Dam. Before we left, I'd checked to read about the tours. They were listed at $5 each, which seemed like a bargain. I'd hoped to buy tickets ahead of time, but there didn't seem to be a way. In any case, we had our breakfast, and then drove the short distance to the visitor center.

Approaching the door, we noticed this memorial fountain.

Here's what it says on the plaque.

A Day for Learning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to Wednesday. For you working people, it's hump day! Yay! What could be better than that? Well...Friday...and pay day, I suppose. Those are both better than hump day, but I digress.

The day kind of went off the rails yesterday. I'll tell you why in just a minute. There was time to get in my morning dose of slow-stitching. I've stitched August, September, and October now.

But take a look at November there on the right. Fireworks? In November? Well. This is the first new thing I learned yesterday ...

Back on Task from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Our overcast sky and cool weather continues. It was cool enough yesterday that we both wore sweatshirts, which seems just crazy in August. I expect warmer weather will return, but for now, the break from the heat is appreciated. And no rain, which makes being outside nice. While I was out watering the annuals yesterday, I found a cat on a mission.

He was pretty sure something was moving in the grass. If something was there, I sure couldn't see it. Eventually, he gave up and followed me back to the house.

Gearing Up from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was kind of a wasted morning yesterday. I had a 10:20 a.m. appointment with my dermatologist. At 11:20 a.m., I was still waiting to be seen. It was tempting to leave, but I was sitting there in a gown, and I knew if I got up to put on my clothes again, someone would come in. So, I waited. In the end, she did two biopsies. I expect one to be benign. As for the other, I'll just have to wait and see. I'm not leaning either way on ...

14th Blogiversary Giveaway! from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! Are you feeling lucky? Today marks the 14th anniversary of Cat Patches. Today's post will be my 5,653rd post. When I started blogging, it was because I wanted to learn from more experienced quilters (I didn’t learn until July of 2008). Also, there were online groups and events I wanted to join in and participate via blogging. With the passage of time, it has evolved into my daily “letter to friends.” When I started writing, I never dreamed I would stick with it for so long.

Over the years, I’ve met new ...

When Life Doesn't Give you Enough Lemons from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's been quite a morning so far. I was here to chat with y'all at least a couple of hours ago. But then my new version of Photoshop Elements messed up in a way that isn't worth going into. In short, my computer doesn't have enough power to run the new version, and we don't want to spend the cubic dollars to bring it up to speed. And that's fine because Engineer Mike figured out how to use a different version that's posted online and allows users with older ...

Long Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Did you ever have a day when absolutely nothing goes right? I blame the Christmas season a little bit. Things always get more and more weird as the day approaches. Then it's a week of weirdness between Christmas and New Years. Is it a holiday? Is it a workday? And if it's a workday...why? These are questions I've asked myself in a former life. In retirement, I don't think about holidays any more. There are no holidays from retirement...and no vacations either. This might be a good time to get ...
